Union County is giving residents the ability to get rid of your household hazardous waste....for FREE! That frustration of not being able to throw certain materials away in the regular garbage collection usually has us storing this stuff in our garages and basements. This August 4th at the Union County Vocational technical schools campus located at 1776 Raritan Road in Scotch Plains between the hours of 9 A.M. and 2 P.M. you can bring approved household hazardous materials for disposal.

Those old worn out tires that have been residing in your garage can finally go. Those outdated Mercury Switches that you may have replaced will be welcomed with a $5.00 Home Depot gift certificate. Union County's Freeholders efforts to make our homes safer by ridding them of Hazardous and Combustible waste for free happens a few times a year.

For a list of approved materials that will be accepted for removal refer to their website at

Make sure you refer to the list to see if your household hazardous waste will be accepted for disposal.
